WINDOW ROCK -- The Navajo Nation has launched a new website that will allow visitors to watch news and weather coverage on the reservation. Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly announced the launch of the Navajonationnews.com on Saturday. It is the result of several years of planning and research on the nation's media landscape. The new site will feature local news and information from the Navajo nation. It will also feature news from the rest of the world. "The last several years have given me a great deal of insight to our media landscape. We have a small number of media outlets that cover the entire Navajo Nation," said Shelly in a release. "But while many of these outlets provide excellent local content, we also have a growing number of national, online media outlets that cover the Navajo Nation. And since our readership spans from Phoenix to Los Angeles, we need a website that will connect to many of these outlets." Navajonationnews.com will be managed by the Navajo Nation Communications Department and will be overseen by a new director. Related Links The new site is part of an overall plan to improve the quality of media content on the Navajo Nation. Shelly said he and his administration are looking forward to launching the new site. "Navajonationnews.com will connect the people of the Navajo Nation to our media content from the rest of the world," Shelly said in the release. "It will be a place where we can show our stories, and more importantly, where we can show our people. It will also be a place to learn about our communities and our people from people who live on the Navajo Nation." Navajonationnews.com is also part of the many changes that the Navajo Nation Communications Department has made over the last year. Navajonationnews.com is part of the new website, nvns.com, launched in May. In April, the Navajo Nation's first daily newspaper, The Navajo Times, went from being printed only once a week to being printed daily. Other changes include expanding the Navajo Nation Council Press Corps and a new sports website, navajonationsports.com.
